Hot Zone Field Set-Up Instructions

Materials Kit
Orange paint
White paint
5 stakes
4 strings
   One 5 yd Foul Line String with loops at the following lengths:
      Blue 0 ft
      Blue 4 ft
      Blue 7.5 ft
      Blue 11 ft
      Blue 15 ft
   One 8 ft Triangle String with loops at the following lengths:
      Blue 0 ft
      Blue 3 ft
      Blue 8 ft
   One 30 yd Catch Zone String with loops at the following lengths:
      Blue 0 yds
      Orange 5 yds
      White 15 yds
      Blue 30 yds
   One 18 ft Zone String with loops at the following lengths:
      Blue 0 ft
      Blue 18 ft

Field Setup Instructions

Paint the Catch Zone

• Choose where you want the middle of the Hot Zone to be and set a Hot Zone stake.
• Attach the Blue 0 yd loop of the Catch Zone String to the Hot Zone stake.
• Attach the orange paint can to the orange loop. Walk a circle around the Hot Zone stake, at the radius of the orange loop, painting a Hot Zone orange circle (10 yard diameter).
• Attach the white paint can to the white loop. Walk a circle around the Hot Zone stake, at the radius of the white loop, painting a white Boundary Line (30 yd diameter).

Paint a Foul Line Square to the Catch Zone

• Pull the Catch Zone String straight in the direction of where you are going to paint the Throwing Box.
• Set a Zone stake at the orange loop, (on the orange Hot Zone boundary) but do not attach the Catch Zone String to it. This will be the anchor point for the start of the Zone painting.
• The 30 yard loop of the Catch Zone String will reach the center of the Foul Line (the front edge of the Throwing Box)
• Set a Foul Line stake at the 30 yard loop of the Catch Zone String.
• Attach the 0 yd loop of the Triangle String to the Foul Line stake.
• Attach the 7.5 ft loop of the Foul Line String to the Foul Line stake.
• Pull the Triangle String up along the Catch Zone string toward the Hot Zone. Set a stake at the 3 yd loop.
• Pull the 15 ft loop of the Foul Line straight out to the right.
• Pull the 8 ft loop of the Triangle string down to meet the Foul Line and set a stake and attach both strings where they meet.
• Pull the 0 ft loop of the Foul Line String straight out to the left.
• Paint a white Foul Line.

Paint a Throwing Box Square to the Foul Line

• Set a stake at the 4 ft loop of the Foul Line String.
• Attach the 8 ft loop of the Triangle String to the same stake.
• Attach the 0 ft loop of the Triangle String to the stake at the 0 ft loop of the Foul Line String.
• Pull the 3 ft loop of the Triangle String straight down from the end of the Foul Line to make part of the right side of the Throwing Box.
• Detach the 15 ft loop of the Foul Line String from the stake, and use the Foul Line String to continue the right side the full length of the Box.
• Paint the right side of the Throwing Box.
• Attach the Foul Line String back to the stake at the end of the Foul Line.
• Set a stake at the 11 ft loop of the Foul Line String.
• Attach the Blue 8 ft loop of the Triangle String to the same stake.
• Attach the 0 ft loop of the Triangle String to the stake at the 15 ft loop of the Foul Line String.
• Pull the 3 ft loop of the Triangle String straight down from the end of the Foul Line to make part of the left side of the Throwing Box.
• Detach the 0 ft loop of the Foul Line String from the stake, and use the Foul Line String to continue the left side the full length of the Box.
• Paint the left side of the Throwing Box.
• Use the Foul Line String to connect the right and left side at the back of the Throwing Box.
• Paint the back side of the Throwing Box.

 Paint the Zones in the Catch Zone

• Attach the Blue 0 ft loop of the Zone String to the anchor Zone stake on the orange Hot Zone boundary and mark the spot with white paint.
• Pull the Zone String taught, either to the right or left, and mark with white paint where it meets the orange painted circle.
• Move the Blue 0 ft loop of the Zone String and the stake to the new mark.
• Repeat Steps #2-3, continuing in the same direction, until there are five marked white spots on the Hot Zone circle. (The final measurement should meet up with the original spot.)
• Pull the Catch Zone String (with the 0 yd loop attached to the stake in the middle of the Hot Zone) straight through one of the marks out to the white Boundary Line.
• Paint the line only from the white mark on the Hot Zone circle to the Boundary circle.
• Repeat steps #5-6 with the other four marks.
• Paint the numbers in the Zones.

   1 - Close left
   2 - Close right
   3 - Far Left
   4 - Far Right
   5 - Far center
