Classifications
The following outline describes the divisions, classes, and Championships that have been established by the IDDHA for Canine Disc competition. Additional information for each subject is provided in this guide.
The Open (Professional) division is open to dogs not entered in the Novice division. Pre-qualification is not required. Events within this division include Distance, Single Disc, and Freestyle.
The Novice (Amateur) division is open to dogs not entered in the Open division. Pre-qualification is not required. Events within this division include Distance, Single Disc, and Freestyle. Within the novice division, Junior Novice handlers (handlers 14 years and under) are eligible for Outstanding Junior Handler awards.
Distance
This class measures the overall distance of a throw made from behind the foul line to the
catch point. Each team is allotted 3 throws
per heat. Men and women compete separately in
the Open and Novice Division of this class. Records
and/or Championship points are offered in this class.
Single Disc
This class tests a teams accuracy in a timed event using a single disc. Handlers are allotted 120 seconds, or a total of 7 throws, whichever comes first. Men and women compete together in the Open and Novice Divisions of this class. Throws are awarded points based on the location of the catch on the Single Disc court. Titling, ranking, and Championship points are offered in this class.
Freestyle
Using multiple discs, each team performs a Freestyle routine that includes a variety of maneuvers. Routines are judged according to the abilities of the dog, the skills of the handler, and how effectively the team works together. Men and women compete together in the Open and Novice Divisions of this class. Titling, ranking, and Championship points are offered in this class.
Annually, the IDDHA organizes the IDDHA Canine Disc World Championships (Championship) that is comprised of the following events:
IDDHA Canine Disc Distance Championship
IDDHA Canine Disc Single Disc Championship
IDDHA Canine Disc Freestyle Championship
Two divisions are offered in each Championship event: Open/Pro and Novice/Amateur. The Overall Championship titles are determined by placement in all three events with each event being weighted equally. Although teams can register for each event separately, only teams participating in all three events are considered for the Overall Championship.
Multiple dog entries are permitted. There is no limit to the number of registered entrants for individual Championship events.
The dates and venue for these events are available on the IDDHA web site, or by contacting the IDDHA.
