Contest Guidelines
General Application and Entry Policies
Competitors, through submission of entry, acknowledge that they are knowledgeable of the current IDDHA Rules and Regulations included but not limited to the following:
Events are open to purebred and mixed breed dogs being at least 18 months of age (12 months for Single Disc) at the time of a Championship. The following exclusions apply:
Bitches in season.
Dogs suffering from any deformity, injury, or illness that may affect the dogs physical or mental performance.
Dogs exhibiting signs of aggression toward people or other dogs.
All dogs must be registered with the IDDHA to compete in IDDHA Championship events.
All Championship teams are required to register for events. Entries must be postmarked by the closing date and fees paid in US funds. To avoid disappointment, register early.
Entry confirmation will be sent before the competition.
Entries are viable for IDDHA Sanctioned Titling and Ranking. The Competition Secretary serves as the official IDDHA Representative.
Entries for exhibition only are not allowed.
Refunds are permitted for bitches that come into season by the trial date if the bitchs regular veterinarian provides a signed notice.
If local ordinances require a rabies vaccination and/or a license, the contest organizer can request all participating dogs to provide proof before competing. Vaccinations for Parvo and Kennel Cough are recommended, but not required.
No substitutions of either handler or dog are permitted for the Championship.
At the discretion of the contest organizer, the second heat of competition can be limited to the top percentage of scorers from the preliminary heat, provided this rule is stipulated prior to the event.
The running order is determined by lottery in the preliminary heats of all events.
The scores from the preliminary heat(s) determine the running order in subsequent heats. Teams will run in reverse order of standing.
No refunds are permitted for the following reasons:
A withdrawal after the closing date.
The dog is absent, disqualified, excused by a judge, or banned from competition by action of the organizing committee.
The competition cannot be opened or completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, acts of god, public emergency, act of public enemy, strike, or any other cause beyond the control of the IDDHA.
No leashes, collars, food, or other aids are permitted on the field during competitions. However, unobtrusive dog bandanas are acceptable.
Only approved competition discs are permitted on the field.
Bitches in season are not permitted at the competition site.
In the event of disruptions, the following rules apply:
If a spectators dog enters the field of play during a heat, time is stopped until the situation is controlled and then time resumes.
If the competing dog relieves itself on the field of play, time does not stop while the field is cleaned.
If any type of unusual disruption occurs during the heat, time can be stopped at the discretion of the Judge.
If inclement weather threatens or occurs, Judges have the discretion to delay or postpone the commencement of an event due to but not limited to the following conditions: excessive wind, fading light, or risk of a lightning strike.
Competitors are responsible for the safety and welfare of their dogs, which includes proper supervision and care.
The organizing committee may refuse any entry for any reason.
As a condition of entry, competitors agree to the following conditions:
Use 108 gram Fastback Frisbee® discs during competition. Sponsored teams in the Open division are permitted to use specially imprinted or colored Fastback discs weighing 108 grams. Exception: Dogs weighing less than 15 pounds may use smaller discs provided by the handler.
Sign a waiver indemnifying Championship organizers, including the IDDHA, against any legal claim for damages. See the signature portion of IDDHA Disc Dog Registration/IDDHA Membership Application.
Know their place in the running order before the beginning of a heat. The Field Announcer informs the competitors of their turn to compete and announces where the competitors should be: In the Hole, at the On-Deck Circle, or Ready to Compete.
All handlers are expected to adhere to the following standards of conduct:
Before practicing or competing, allow the dog to warm up gradually.
Avoid practicing on gravel, concrete, or asphalt because the impact may harm the dogs joints and paws.
Allow the dog to cool down before providing refreshment. Although potable water should be provided at the event site, bring water for you and your dog.
Disruptive challenges of contest officials, abusive language, or other inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification.
If your dog relieves itself, promptly clean up the area.
To avoid conflicts with spectators and competitors, keep your dog leashed or confined, except during practice and competition.
Only the thrower, the competing dog, and the officials are permitted on the field during competition.
Provide attention and praise as positive reinforcement for the dogs effort.
