Hot Zone Judge Certification Test

Open Division

1.  For a catch to count:

  1. The dog must jump to catch the disc
  2. The dog must jump at least once before catching the disc
  3. The dog may catch the disc on the ground

 

2.  For a catch to count in Zones 1-5:

  1. The dog must have all four paws in the correct zone
  2. The dog must have at least two paws in the correct zone
  3. The dog must have at least one paw in the correct zone

 

3.  For a catch to count in the Hot Zone:

  1. The dog must have all four paws in the correct zone
  2. The dog must have at least two paws in the correct zone
  3. The dog must have at least one paw in the correct zone

 

4.  The boundary for a catch to count in each zone is:

A.  Inside the zone line without touching the line

B.  On or inside the zone line

C.  Outside the zone line

 

5.  If a team has catches in Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3, and makes a catch in Zone 5, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 4 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 4

C.  Good and the team may progress to the Hot Zone

 

6.  If a team is going for Zone 2 and the dog lands from a successful jumping catch with three paws in Zone 1 and one paw on the line between Zone 1 and Zone 2, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 3

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

7.  If a team is going for Zone 2 and the dog lands from a successful jumping catch with three paws in Zone 2 and one paw on the line between Zone 2 and the Hot Zone, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 3

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

8.  If a team is going for Zone 2 and the dog lands from a successful jumping catch with three paws out of bounds and one paw on the line between Zone 1 and Zone 2, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 3

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

9.  If a team is going for Zone 2 and the dog jumps, tips the disc, then lands and catches the disc on the ground in Zone 2, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 3

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

10.  If a team is going for Zone 2 and the dog tips the disc while running on the ground in Zone 2, then jumps and catches the disc in the air, landing in Zone 3, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 3

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

11.  If a team is going for Zone 2 and the dog jumps, tips the disc, then lands and jumps again, catches the disc in the air and lands in Zone 2, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 3

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

12.  If a team is going for the Hot Zone and the dog jumps, tips the disc in Zone 2, then runs and catches the disc on the ground with all four paws in the Hot Zone, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt the Hot Zone again

B.  Good and the team may run for the finish line

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

13.  If a team is going for the Hot Zone and the dog jumps, tips the disc in the Hot Zone, then runs and catches the disc on the ground in Zone 5, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt the Hot Zone again

B.  Good and the team may run for the finish line

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

14.  If a team is going for the Hot Zone and the dog jumps, tips the disc in the Hot Zone, then runs and catches the disc on the ground with three paws in the Hot Zone and one paw in Zone 5, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt the Hot Zone again

B.  Good and the team may run for the finish line

C.  Hot Zone and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

15.  During the qualifiers only (not the Games) each team will have how long a time period in which to make an unlimited number of throws?

A.  Three minutes

B.  Two and a half minutes

C.  Two minutes

 

16.  Time will begin:

A.  When the handler releases the disc

B.  When the dog initially crosses the Foul Line

C.  When the dog makes the first catch

 

17.  Time will stop:

A.  When the dog makes the Hot Zone catch

B.  When the dog crosses the Foul Line with or without the disc following a successful Hot Zone catch

C.  When the dog crosses the Foul Line carrying the disc to the handler following a successful Hot Zone catch

 

18.  If a dog does not have a successful Hot Zone catch and return prior to time expiring:

A.  The score will be the final zone in which the dog returned the disc to the handler prior to time running out, even if the dog caught a disc in a higher zone but didn’t have enough time to return the disc to the handler

B.  The score will be the final zone in which the dog caught the disc prior to time running out, even if the dog did not have enough time to return the disc to the handler

C.  The score will be a “no score”

 

19.  If two teams are tied with a time of 2:00:

A.  The team with the fewest attempts in the round will be awarded the higher ranking

B.  The team with the fewest attempts at the Hot Zone will be awarded the higher ranking

C.  The team with the fewest accidental “Hot Zones” will be awarded the higher ranking

 

20.  If more than one team is tied with a time of 2:00 and they have the same number of attempts in the round:

A.  The team with the fewest attempts in the Zone with the highest degree of difficulty will be awarded the higher ranking.

B.  The team with the fewest attempts at Zone 1 will be awarded the higher ranking

C.  The team with the fewest accidental “Hot Zones” will be awarded the higher ranking

 

21.  If more than one team is tied with a time of 2:00, the same number of throws in the round, and the same number of attempts in the Zone with the highest degree of difficulty:

A.  They will share the ranking

B.  The dog with the fastest time from another round will be awarded the higher ranking

C.  There will be a Hot Zone throw-off for the fastest time

 

22.  If a handler steps over the Foul Line during or immediately after a throw:

A.  There is no penalty, and the game may continue

B.  A False Start is called on that throw, and the throw will be forfeited

C.  A 10 second time penalty is added to the score

 

23.  If a handler accidentally throws a disc that the dog catches in the Hot Zone early, then the handler steps over the Foul Line:

A.  There is no penalty, and the game may continue

B.  A False Start is called on that throw, and the throw will be forfeited

C.  A Hot Zone penalty is called and the team must start over at Zone 1

 

24.  Handlers will be allowed to use:

A.  Any combination of a Fastback by Wham-O, a Type 235 by Hero, or a K-10 by Hyperflite

B.  Only one of either a Fastback by Wham-O, a Type 235 by Hero, or a K-10 by Hyperflite

C.  Any disc he or she chooses

 

25.  If at any time the handler chooses to replace the disc in play:

A.  He/she may switch discs at any time

B.  He/she must hand the disc in play to the Line Judge before receiving a new disc from the Line Judge

C.  He/she may get a new disc from the Line Judge prior to handing the disc in play to the Line Judge

 

26.  If the dog loses the disc, or the dog fails to return the disc to the handler:

A.  The handler may not leave the Thrower’s Box and must direct the dog from behind the Foul Line

B.  The handler may leave the Thrower’s Box to retrieve the disc but the next throw will be forfeited

C.  Time will continue to run and the handler may choose to have a 10 second time penalty added to the team’s Round Time and retrieve the disc himself/herself.

 

27.  If the disc is thrown out of bounds (i.e. in a tree or bleachers or other place in which the dog can not retrieve the disc):

A.  A 20 second time penalty will be added to the team’s Round Time and the handler will receive a new disc from the Line Judge.

B.  A 10 second time penalty will be added to the team’s Round Time and the handler will receive a new disc from the Line Judge.

C.  Time will continue to run and the handler must retrieve his own disc.

 

28.  If there is more than one disc on the field of play at any one time:

A.  The Line Judge may choose to issue a warning or a 10 second time penalty

B.  The Line Judge will automatically disqualify the team

C.  Both A and B are correct

 

29.  If the handler grabs, snatches, pinches, pushes, pries, or uses touch in any way forceful to retrieve the disc from the dog:

A.  The Line Judge may choose to issue a warning or a 10 second time penalty

B.  If it is a second offense, the Line Judge will automatically disqualify the team

C.  Both A and B are correct

 

30.  If any person other than the handler gives the dog verbal or physical directions of any kind (double-handling):

A.  A judge may choose to issue a warning or a 10 second time penalty

B.  A judge will automatically disqualify the team

C.  A judge will automatically disqualify the other person

 

31.  A team may be disqualified for:

A.  Fighting or in any way provoking other competitors, including other dogs

B.  Excessive dog aggression

C.  Any abuse of dogs

D.  Unsportsmanlike behavior

E.  Fouling the playing field

F.  Competing with a dog in heat

G.  All of the above

 

Pro-Novice & Novice Divisions

1.  For a catch to count:

  1. The dog must jump to catch the disc
  2. The dog must jump at least once before catching the disc
  3. The dog may catch the disc on the ground

 

2.  For a catch to count in Zones 1-5:

  1. The dog must have all four paws in the correct zone
  2. The dog must have at least two paws in the correct zone
  3. The dog must have at least one paw in the correct zone

 

3.  For a catch to count in the Hot Zone:

  1. The dog must have all four paws in the correct zone
  2. The dog must have at least two paws in the correct zone
  3. The dog must have at least one paw in the correct zone

 

4.  If a dog is having a hard time returning the disc to the handler and the handler leaves the Throwing Box, crossing the Foul Line:

A.  There is no penalty, and the game may continue

B.  A False Start is called on that throw, and the throw will be forfeited

C.  A 10 second time penalty is added to the score

 

5.  If a PRO-NOVICE team is going for Zone 4 and the dog lands from a successful catch with at least one paw in Zone 4, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 4 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to the Hot Zone

C.  Good and the team may progress to Zone 5

 

6.  If a NOVICE team is going for Zone 2 and the dog lands from a successful catch with at least one paw in Zone 2, the catch is:

A.  Not good and the team must attempt Zone 2 again

B.  Good and the team may progress to the Hot Zone

7.  Each PRO-NOVICE team will have how long a time period in which to make an unlimited number of throws?
