IDDHA Background and Goals
The International Disc Dog Handlers Association (IDDHA) is a member-supported, non-profit corporation that is organized and operated to encourage, promote, advertise, and develop the disc dog as a unique and excellent canine athlete. The IDDHA serves the following roles:
Provides guidelines and establishes standards, rules, and regulations for the efficient promotion and management of the sport of Canine Disc.
Oversees Canine Disc activities, events, and contests worldwide.
Establishes qualified subsidiary and/or affiliated groups and organizations.
Establishes requirements, categories, and criteria for membership in the Corporation.
Establishes standards for judging the performance of Canine Disc competitions.
Maintains achievement records of individual disc dogs and handlers.
Establishes appropriate recognition for achievements.
Cooperates with other canine sport associations having common purposes.
The mission of the International Disc Dog Handlers Association (IDDHA) is to educate, inspire, and assist all levels of individuals and organizations interested in the growth of the Canine Disc sport.
The IDDHA promotes the use of positive training methods required for Canine Disc as a way to improve the lives of dogs with high play and prey drivesdogs that might otherwise be abandoned, euthanized, or killed in accidents because they are too hard to handle.
The IDDHA also believes that the sport fosters a close bond between handler and dog, and provides every dog with meaningful mental and physical challenges.
The IDDHA is:
Committed to maintaining a unified organization for all levels of participants in Canine Disc activities.
Determined to provide an open forum for effective and widespread communication among disc dog handlers.
Dedicated to helping handlers learn to understand and train their dogs while encouraging good sportsmanship and safe, humane handling of disc dogs.
