Canine disc competition has officially flown under the Maple Leaf. The inaugural event was held by the D.O.G. Sports Centre in Caledon, Ontario on May 15 and was sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart and Pedigreẻ Dog Food. An IDDHA sanctioned event, participants competed for titles in Freestyle and Single Disc events. Clinics were also offered in Retrieval Proficiency Testing, Throw and Catch, Freestyle, and Throwing Accuracy.

Breeds from Weimaraners to Poodle cross breeds were showcased, although Border Collies and Australian Shepherds carried the competition. Spectators and participants enjoyed a picture perfect day with almost no wind. Guests thrilled at the skill level of the dogs and handlers alike.

Five teams entered the Freestyle competition. Judging the contests were IDDHA representatives Howard and Dawn Kadish. At the end of the day, many teams had qualified for a leg towards their Basic Disc Dog title.
